No prayers, we were only chained by the prophet and beaten like dogs – Rescued victims

9 of the 28 people rescued from the den of a 70-year-old Prophet Emmanuel Adeyemi, have narrated their horrible experience while being chained in the man’s house, New Telegraph reports.

Adeyemi was recently arrested alongside his first wife at his Oyinbo Unity Estate, Olamidun Close, Yakoyo, Oke-Ira, Ojodu residence in Lagos, after he was accused of putting his son, Toba Adedoyin Adeyemi, 17, in chains and starving him of food.

13 children and 15 adults were rescued from his church.  9 of them have been certified mentally stable and released to their families. One of them, Adebisi, said she was taken to the pastor’s church by her relatives and abandoned for over eight months before the Lagos State government came to their rescue.

Adebisi said the pastor threatened her husband while other relatives abandoned her.  She said: “I was told that I was sick and that was why they took me there. They said that I was crazy but I don’t think so.”

Another victim, Jamiu, said he never stopped wondering why he had to be chained like a dog and beaten as a form of communication.  He said: “Before he feeds us, he beats us. Before eating, we get serious beating.

He gives us herbal medicine once in a week and when we are given, the medicine makes us to eat very well and sleep. Again, you have to be beaten by the man before drinking it. No special prayers were offered for us except herbal drinking and beatings."

Another woman said that she was taken to the place to prevent her from collecting her debt. The Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile- Yusuf, said that 9 people had been certified mentally stable.

According to her, the underage victims have been taken to correctional homes, adding that the pastor would be prosecuted by government.
